At the Grammy’s last night, Annie Lennox used her platform to call for a ceasefire.
Let’s break this down.
Tell Me Why!
Firstly, it is always tragic when innocent people suffer - especially children.
Scrolling through her IG page, one would get the impression that Ms. Lennox is acting like this is the first and only war in the world and that Israel is the be-all and end-all of evil.
Hamas has embedded numerous photographers within the civilian population and throughout hospitals to capture all the suffering and devastation of the war to feed a steady diet of horrific images to the world. Why? Because they know that the West cannot stomach seeing the pain of innocent people - especially children. And rightly so. Anyone with a moral conscience and heart should be horrified by the suffering.
But for Hamas, it is a calculated and deliberate attempt to demonize Israel. And they are using Westerners with little or no critical thinking skills or knowledge of the history of the Arab-Israeli Conflict to fight their PR war for them. To Hamas, images of dead and wounded are like trophies to show the world.
If Hamas cared for their people, they would protect them in the extensive, underground web of tunnels they created - tunnels that are 160% bigger than the entire London subway system - with openings under numerous homes, schools, mosques, and hospitals.
Lennox might want to ask why, after October 7, Hamas didn’t put a plan in place to protect their civilian population. Hamas had been planning the October 7 massacre for over a year, knowing very well that Israel would respond.
Hamas opened the gates of hell on their people while their fighters hide like rats in their tunnels, and their leaders live luxuriously with their billions of stolen dollars in Qatar, Turkey, and Lebanon, leaving their women and children as their first line of defense.
The most shameful thing of all - and I don’t know if Lennox deliberately ignored this fact or was just ignorant of it - is that Hamas rejected the most recent ceasefire agreement offered to them.
To all the people screaming “ceasefire” from all ends of the earth: How about changing tactics and demanding that Hamas release ALL the hostages and surrender? That way, Israel’s brave soldiers, who have left their homes and families to fight a war they never wanted, can also go home and we can all call it a day.
Until then, Israel will do whatever it can to protect the Israeli civilian population and to find the hostages, no matter how much the world hates them for doing so.
